How to make decorative crochet eggs – A special Easter

Who says Easter says eggs! Children all over the world love them, both the chocolate ones to eat and the decorated ones to look for in the house or in the garden during the Easter hunt. Even adults enjoy giving and receiving them.

On this occasion, the house is also populated with decorative eggs of all sizes, materials and colors. There are those who prefer to buy them in series or in artisan shops and those who enjoy creating them with their own hands, involving even the little ones in the preparations.

How to make Crochet Eggs

Now let’s give you the instructions! Commence with a Magic Loop, then work in rounds as follows:

1st round: 6 dc (= double crochet) into loop, end with a ss (= slip stitch) into first dc.

Rounds with inc.

2nd round: 2 dc into each stitch of previous round (there are 12 sts).  Continue to work in rounds using the spiral way (= once that you have finished the round’s stitches, you are not going to make a ss to join the round, instead, you’re going to start working right away the first stitch of the next round).  Put a stitch-marker to indicate the first stitch of each round.

3rd round: * work 2 dc into next st (1 stitch increased), 1 dc into following st; rep from * 5 more times (there are 18 sts).

4th round: * work 2 dc into next st (1 stitch increased), 1 dc into each of next 2 sts; rep from * 5 more times (there are 24 sts).

5th round: * work 2 dc into next st (1 stitch increased), 1 dc into each of next 3 sts; rep from * 5 more times (there are 30 sts).

From 6th to 12th round: 1 dc into each st of previous round (there are 30 sts).

Rounds with dec.

13th round: * work 2 dc together (= insert hook into next st, yarn over and pull up loop, insert hook into following st, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook –  1 stitch decreased), 1 dc into each of next 3 sts ; rep from * 5 more times (24 sts remain).

14th round: * 2dc tog, 1 dc into each of next 2 sts; rep from * 5 more times (18 sts rem).

15th round: * 2dc tog, 1 dc into next st; rep from * 5 more times (12 sts rem).

16th round: 1 dc into each st of previous round (there are 12 sts).

17th round: * 2dc tog; rep from * 5 more times (6 sts rem).

Cut yarn, leaving a long end. Using a yarn needle, thread it through rem sts, closing hole, draw up tightly and secure.

Finishing

The first egg is ready. Decorate it with ribbons, as you like: we used a polka dot ribbon to the center and a plain-colored ribbon on top.

Continue making the number of eggs you need, combining cotton and ribbons color on color or in contrast ones. Follow the imagination and style of the home corner that you are going to decorate!
