Halloween crochet decorations: little ghost and bat!

Trick or treat?… The scariest and funniest holiday of the year is coming: Halloween! For this occasion, we have thought of two easy crochet projects for you with Calicò yarn: a little ghost and a bat in the typical colours of the characters.

Make your own ghost and bat

LITTLE GHOST

How much yarn: 1 ball (50g and 113m) of Calicò yarn (50% Merino Wool, 50% Acrylic Fiber)
for each of next colours: black, orange, white, light pink, brown and beige

Hook: A 3.25mm crochet hook

Sewing needle: Yarn needle with rounded point

Other items: Two black eyes for toys. Wadding

BAT

How much yarn: 1 ball (50g and 113m) of Calicò yarn (50% Merino Wool, 50% Acrylic Fiber)
for each of next colours: grey, black, orange and light pink

Hook: A 3.25mm crochet hook

Sewing needle: Yarn needle with rounded point

Other items: Two black eyes for toys. Wadding

STITCHES
Chain (ch) – Slip stitch (ss) – Double crochet (dc) – Treble 8tr).
Ridge double crochet back (RdcB): work 1 dc inserting hook into back loop only of previous row
Crab stitch: this is dc worked from left to right. Start at the left-hand end of the row you are working, insert the hook in the first st to the right and complete a dc stitch. Repeat in the next st to the right and continue to the end of the row.

INSTRUCTIONS

LITTLE GHOST

Note: insert the wadding gradually as you work on each piece, except the arms and the hat.

BODY
With hook and white yarn make a magic ring and into this ring work: 1st round: 8 dc. Pull yarn to close ring. 2nd round: increase 1 stitch (= 1 inc : 2 dc into same st) in each st of previous round (= 16 sts). 3rd round: * 1 dc, 1 inc; rep from * to end (= 24 sts.). 4th round: * 3 dc, 1 inc; rep from * to end (= 30 sts). 5th round: * 4 dc, 1 inc; rep from * to end (= 36 sts). 6th round: * 5 dc, 1 inc; rep from * to end  (= 42 sts). From 7th to 12th round: 1 dc into each st (= 42 sts). 13th round: 13 dc, 6 incs, 4 dc, 6 incs, 13 dc (= 54 sts). 14th round: 13 dc, (1 inc, 3 dc) 3 times, 4 dc, (3 dc, 1 inc) 3  times, 13 dc (= 60 sts). From 15th to 17th round: 1 dc into each st (= 60 sts). 18th round: 13 dc, [decrease 1 stitch (= 1 dec: tog2dc), 3 dc] 3 times, 4 dc, (3 dc, 1 dec)  3 times, 13 dc (= 54 sts). 19th round:  13 dc, (1dc, 1 dec, 1 dc)  3 times, 4 dc, (1 dc, 1 dec, 1 dc) 3 times, 13 dc (= 48 sts). 20th round: * 7 dc, 1 dec *, rep from * to end (= 42 sts). 21st round: * 12 dc, 1 dec ; rep from * to end (= 39 sts). 22nd round: 1 dc into each st (= 39 sts). 23rd round: * 11 dc, 1 dec; rep from * to end (= 36 sts). 24th round: * 5 dc, 1 inc; rep from * to end (= 42 sts). 25th round: * 6 dc, 1 inc *, rep from * to end (= 48 sts). From 26th to 28th round: 1 dc into each st (= 48 sts). 29th round: * 6 dc, 1 dec ; rep from * to end (= 42 sts). 30th round: 1 dc into each st (= 42 sts). 31st round: * 5 dc, 1 dec;  rep from * to end (= 36 sts). 32nd round: 1 dc into each st (= 36 sts). 33° round: * 4 dc, 1 dec; rep from * to end (= 30 sts). 34th and 35th rounds: 1 dc in each st (= 30 sts). 36th round: * 3 dc, 1 dec ; rep from * to end (= 24 sts). 37th round: * 4 dc, 1 dec; rep from * to end (= 20 sts). 38th round: * 3 dc, 1 dec; rep from * to end (= 16 sts). 39th round: 1 dc in each st (= 16 sts). 40th round: * 2 dc, 1 dec; rep from * to end (= 12 sts). 41st round: 1 dc in each st (= 12 sts). 42nd round: 6 decs (= 6 sts). 43rd round: 3 decs: 3 sts remain. Fasten off.

ARMS (make 2)
With hook and white yarn make a magic ring and into this ring work: 1st round: 6 dc. Pull yarn to close ring. 2nd round: (1 inc, 1 dc) 3 times (= 9 sts). From 3rd to 6th round: 1 dc into each st (= 9 sts).  7th round: (1 dec, 1 dc) 3 times (= 6 sts).  From 8th to 11th round: 1 dc into each st (= 6 m.). 12th round:  3 decs: 3 sts remain. Fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long end.

HAT
With hook and black yarn make a magic ring and into this ring work: 1st round: 6 dc. Pull yarn to close ring. 2nd round: 1 inc in each st (= 12 sts). 3rd round: * 1 inc, 1 dc; rep from * to end (= 18 sts). 4th round: * 1 inc, 2 dc; rep from * to end  (= 24 sts). 5th round: * 1 inc, 3 dc; rep from * to end (= 30 sts). 6th round: * 1 inc, 4 dc; rep from * to end (= 36 sts). 7th round:  1 RdcB in each st(= 36 sts). From 8th to 11th round: 1 dc into each st  (= 36 sts). 12th round: * 1 inc, 3 RdcB; rep from * to end (= 45 sts).
13th  round: * 1 inc, 4 dc; rep from * to end  (= 54 sts). 14th round: work in crab st. Fasten off. With orange yarn finish hat in chain st, as shown in picture. Cut yarn and weave in end. Insert wadding into hat to keep the shape.

CHICKEN LEG
1st part – bone : With hook and beige yarn make a magic ring and into this ring work: 1st round: 6 dc. Pull yarn to close ring. 2nd round: * 1 inc, 1 dc; rep from * to end (= 9 sts). 3rd round: 1 dc into each st  (= 9 sts). 4th round:  * 1 dc, 1 dec; rep from * to end (= 6 sts). Work  2nd part of bone in the same manner. 5th round: join the two parts of bone, working 12 dc all around  (= 12 sts). 6th round:  * 1 dc, 1 dec; rep from * to end  (= 8 sts). 7th round:  1 dc into each st (= 8 sts). Fasten off beige yarn and cont to work with brown yarn. 8th round: 1 dc into each st(= 8 sts).  9th round:  * 1 dc, 1 inc; rep from * to end (= 12 sts). 10th round: * 2 dc, 1 inc; rep from * to end (= 16 sts). 11th and 12th rounds: 1 dc into each st  (= 16 sts). 13th round: * 2  dc, 1 inc; rep from * to end (= 21sts). From 14th to 16th round: 1 dc into each st   (= 21 sts).
17th round: * 2 dc, 1 dec; rep from * to end (= 16 sts). 18th round: 1 dc into each st (= 16 sts). 19th round: * 1dc, 1 dec; rep from * to end : 12 sts remain. Fasten off, leaving a long end. Sew sts with yarn needle.

FINISHING
Fix the eyes; with yarn needle embroider cheeks and mouth , then sew the different parts together, as shown in picture.

BAT

Note: insert the wadding gradually as you work on head and body pieces.

HEAD
With hook and grey yarn work as given for first 5 rounds of ghost hat. From 6th to 9th round:  1 dc into each st (= 30 sts). 10th round: * 1 dec, 3 dc; rep from * to end (= 24 sts). 11th round: * 1dec, 2 dc; rep from * to end (= 18 sts). 12th round: * 1dec, 1 dc; rep from * to end (= 12 sts). Fasten off.

BODY
With hook and grey yarn work as given for first 3 rounds of ghost hat.
From 4th to 9th round: 1 dc into each st (= 18 sts). 10th round: * 1dec, 1 dc; rep from * to end (= 12 sts). Fasten off.

WINGS (make 2)
With hook and grey yarn ch9 and, starting from 2nd ch from hook work as follows:  1st row: 8 dc, turn work. 2nd row: work only 6 dc, turn work.  3rd and 4th rows:  work only 4 dc, turn work.  5th row: work only 4 dc. Fasten off

EARS (make 2)
With grey yarn make a magic ring and into this ring work : 1st round: 6 dc, turn work. 2nd round: 5 dc. Pull yarn to close ring. Fasten off.

LEGS (make 2)
With grey yarn ch7, 1 dc into first ch. Fasten off.

BOW
With orange yarn make a magic ring and into this ring work as follows: ch3, 2 tr, ch3, 1 ss, ch3, 2 tr, ch3, 1 ss. Pull yarn to close ring. Wrap yarn in the middle to create a bow. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Sew the eyes between 9th and 10th round of bat head; with yarn needle embroider mouth and teeth , then sew  the different parts together, as shown in pictures.
