Looking for Easter crochet ideas? Try this cute decorative trio: a female chick, a sheep and a bunny, which can easily become fun placeholders.
MATERIALS
- 1 ball of Milo yarn for each of the following colors: white, yellow, pink, orange and some amount of black
- A 2.75mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle with rounded point
- Wadding for padding

INSTRUCTIONS
Body and head
With yellow yarn (for chick), with white yarn (for sheep) and pink yarn (for bunny) make a magic ring and into this ring work:
1st round: 6 dc. Pull yarn end to close ring.
2nd round: 2 dc into each dc of previous round (= 12 dc).
3rd round: * 1dc, 1 inc (= increase 1 st working 2 dc into same st); rep from * all round (= 18 dc).
4th round: * 1 dc, 1 inc, 1 dc; rep from * all round (= 24 dc).
5th round: * 3 dc, 1 inc; rep from * all round (= 30 dc).
6th round: * 5 dc, 1 inc; rep from * all round (= 35 dc).
7th round: * 3 dc, 1 inc, 3 dc; rep from * all round (= 40 dc).
8th round: * 7 dc, 1 inc; rep from * all round (= 45 dc).
9th round: * 4 dc, 1 inc, 4 dc; rep from * all round (= 50 dc).
From 10th to 14th round: 50 dc.
15th round: * 8 dc, 1 dec (= decrease 1 st, working tog2dc); rep from * all round (= 45 dc). From 16th to 18th round: 45 dc.
19th round: * 13 dc, 1 dec; rep from * all round (= 42 dc).
20th round: * 6 dc, 1 dec, 6 dc; rep from * all round (= 39 dc).
21st round: * 11 dc, 1 dec; rep from * all round (= 36 dc).
22nd round: * 5 dc, 1 dec, 5 dc; rep from * all round (= 33 dc).
23rd round: * 9 dc, 1 dec; rep from * all round (= 30 dc).
24th round: * 4 dc, 1 dec, 4 dc; rep from * all round (= 27 dc).
25th round: * 7 dc, 1 dec; rep from * all round (= 24 dc).
26th round: * 3 dc, 1 dec, 3 dc; rep from * all round (= 21 dc).
27th round: * 5 dc, 1 dec; rep from * all round (= 18 dc).
28th round: * 1 dc, 1 dec ; rep from * all round (= 12 dc).
Cut yarn leaving a long end. Stuff body and head with wadding; then, using yarn needle, sew together rem sts.
Chick’s legs
For each leg, with orange yarn make a magic ring and, into this ring, work 1 ss, ch3, 1 tr, ch3, 1 ss, ch4, 1 dbl tr, ch4, 1 ss, ch3, 1 tr, ch3, 1 ss into first ss. Pull yarn end to close magic ring. Fasten off and cut yarn, leaving a long end.
Chick wings
For each wing, with yellow yarn work as Body until first 2 rounds have been worked (= 12 dc). 3rd round: * 2 dc, 1 inc; rep from * all round (= 16 dc). 4th round: (1 ss, ch3, 1 tr, ch3, 1 ss) into next st , (1 ss, ch4, 1 dbl tr, ch4, 1 ss) into following st, (1 ss, ch3, 1 tr, ch3, 1 ss) into next st. Fasten off and cut yarn, leaving a long end.
Paws of the sheep and the bunny
With white yarn (for sheep) and pink yarn (for bunny) work as Body until first 2 rounds have been worked (= 12 dc).
From 3rd to 5th round: 12 dc. Fasten off and cut yarn, leaving a long end.
Sheep’s ears
with white yarn work as Body until first 2 rounds have been worked (= 12 dc).
From 3rd to 7th round: 12 dc. Fasten off and cut yarn, leaving a long end.
Bunny ears
with pink yarn work as Body until first 2 rounds have been worked (= 12 dc).
3rd round: * 3 dc, 1 inc; rep from * all round (= 15 dc).
From 4th to 6th round: 15 dc. 7th round: * 3 dc, 1 dec; rep from * all round (= 12 dc). From 8th to 10th round: 12 dc. 11th round: * 1 dc, 1 dec; rep from * all round (= 8 dc). From 12th to 14th round: 8 dc. Fasten off and cut yarn, leaving a long end.
Stuff the pieces where it is necessary, then, following pictures, create bunny and sheep.
Sheep’s ‘hair’
Wrap white yarn several times to shape a bow,
then sew it to sheep’s head.
Chick’s crest
With orange yarn ch6 and, starting from 3rd ch from hook, work: 1 tr, ch3, 1 ss, ch3, 1 tr, then 1 ss into each of next 2 ch. Fasten off and cut yarn, leaving a long end. Sew crest to chick’s head.
FINISHING
With yarn needle and black yarn embroider eyes, nose and mouth of bunny and sheep. Embroider chick’s eyes with black yarn and the chick’s mouth with orange yarn.
