A gift pops out of the first pocket of our Advent Calendar! It is a pair of witty ‘Santa’ slippers, ready to warm you up during the holidays. We crocheted them in size UK 3.5/4.5 – US 5.5/6.5. Now, let’s see together how to make them.
Gather materials and go over the stitches
To make slippers you will need
Calicò yarn, 1 ball for each of the following colors: cream, pink, grey, red
A 3.50mm crochet hook
Stitch-markers
Yarn needle with rounded point
We use these stitches
- Chain (ch)
- Slip stitch (sl st)
- Double crochet (dc)
Work a pair of slippers
PART 1 IN CREAM AND PINK
With cream yarn work a magic ring.
1st round: 6 dc into this ring, end with a ss into first st. Pull yarn to close ring.
2nd round: inc 1 st (= 2 dc into same st) in each st of previous round, end with a ss into first st (= 12 dc).
3rd round: * 1 dc, inc 1 st; rep from * all round, end with a ss into first st (= 18 dc).
4th round: * 2 dc, inc 1 st; rep from * all round, end with a ss into first st (= 24 dc).
5th round: * 3 dc, inc 1 st; rep from * all round, end with a ss into first st (= 30 dc).
6th round: *4 dc, inc 1 st; rep from * all round, end with a ss into first st (= 36 dc).
From 7th to 20th round: 1 dc in each st of previous round.
Change to pink.
From 21st to 27th round: 1 dc in each st of previous round.
EYES AND PART 2 UNTIL TO HEEL
Put last slipper st on hold and work 4 eyes, two for each slipper. With grey yarn work a magic ring, 6 dc into this ring, end with a ss into first st.
Pull yarn to close ring. Fasten off. Sew eyes as shown in picture below.
Now, continue slipper. Change to red.
From 28th to 33rd round: 1 dc in each st of previous round.
34th round: (11 dc, inc 1 st) 3 times (= 39 dc).
From 35th to 43rd row: crochet back-and-forth only on 23 dc.
44th row: 11 dc, place a stitch-marker, decrease 1 dc (= dc2tog), place a stitch-marker, 10 dc.
45th row: 8 dc, decrease 1 dc, 9 dc.
46th row: 9 dc, decrease 1 dc, 9 dc. Remove stitch-markers.
PART 3, FROM HEEL TO END
For heel, divide work in half and sew.
Work 42 dc around opening. For flap, crochet back-and-forth only on 28 dc, drecreasing at each end, inside 1 st, 1 st every row until 4 sts remain.
Next row: 1 dc, decrease 1 dc, 1 dc.
Next row: dc3tog. Fasten off.
Crochet the other slipper in the same way, making flap on the opposite side.
Finishing your slippers
Make 4 small pompom, 2 cream and 2 red.
Attach cream pompom to the top of the flap on leg, then fold it down towards RS. Attach red pompom between eyes.
