Mysterious, exotic, seductive. Spices retain all the charm of their far countries of origin. Moreover, inebriate the senses with their universe of colors, flavours, and smells. At the mere mention of their name, East atmospheres and ancestral trade routes fill our imagination. They are as strong, warm and full of personality as the Fashion yarns of 2021-2022 Fall/Winter collection.
Join us on the exclusive Lana Gatto ‘spices route’: day by day we will explore the compositions captured in the balls of Vaniglia, Pepe, Ginepro, Curcuma, and Anice. Let’s write the logbook together!
Day 5. Anice – Melange Lightness
In the last stop of our journey we take a temporal leap back to ancient times, when Egyptians, Greeks and Romans discovered anise seeds from Middle East. Light and with an intense aroma, it is one of the ‘5 Chinese spices’ together with fennel, cloves, cinnamon and pepper. This blend, according to the legend, contains the 5 Chinese fundamental elements and the 5 basic flavors.
Volume and lightness pervade the corresponding Anice yarn, a precious ball 100% natural: Baby Alpaca, Wool and Cotton blend in balanced percentages. The melange tones make it a valuable product for outerwear and accessories.
Day 4. Curcuma – Sustainable jacquard
We land in the southern regions of India. We are on the trail of the ‘saffron of the Indies’, or turmeric, with its distinctive vibrant yellow color. Its pulverized root has long been used, both in the East and in the West, to dye fabrics, paper, and other materials.
Color is precisely the main feature brought to Curcuma yarn, the most sustainable yarn in the Lana Gatto Fashion collection. Thin and extra soft, it is in fact composed of Organic Cotton and Wool with the addition of Recycled Polyamide fiber. The print in delicate colors creates a surprising and delightful jacquard effect.
Day 3. Ginepro – Nuanced reflections
Let’s stop by among the hills of Northern Europe, in search of the original juniper plants. They produce balsamic, intense flavored berries with hints of citrus fruits. This spice rapidly spread all over the continent and in Japan, developing in different varieties.
Ginepro yarn takes from its natural counterpart its strong character and persistence. The two fibers that compose it – Extrafine Merino Wool and Cotton – guarantee warmth and strength. The color chart contains nuanced reflections similar to artistic brushstrokes.
Day 2. Pepe – Intensity for her and for him
We reach the coasts of India’s Malabar region. From here the black pepper variety par excellence has spread all over the world. In the past it came to have a higher value than gold and was often used as a currency in trades.
Pepe yarn recalls the spice in the preciousness of the fibers – Merino Wool and Alpaca – and in the dark tones that characterize the color chart. Warm and soft on the skin, it is the ideal choice for her and for him garments.
Day 1. Vaniglia – Country-vintage preciousness
We take the direction of Central America forests. In these inaccessible places, men of the past ventured, amidst dangers and difficulties, to collect the rare and precious vanilla.
This spice is one of the most sought after by the ancient European courts. Vaniglia yarn has captured its preciousness. It was born, in fact, from the pleasant encounter between cotton, linen and a small percentage of polyamide fiber. The chain stitched gives volume and reduces the specific weight to the maximum, caressing the skin and retaining the warmth. The country-vintage colors are an irresistible appeal for fashion-addicts!
