Cup covers ‘heart&hug’ – The steps of the work

Prepare materials and find out stitches you will use

To make a pair of ‘heart&hug’ cup covers you will need:

  • Calicò yarn, 1 ball for each of the following colous: grey and red
  • a pair of 3.75mm knitting needles
  • a 3.75mm crochet hook
  • yarn needle with rounded point
  • 2 red heart in felt
  • 4 small buttons
  • fabric glue

With knitting needles we will work in stocking stitch. With crochet hook we will use the following stitches instead:

  • chain (ch)
  • slip stitch (ss)
  • double crochet (dc)
  • crab stitch: this is dc worked from left to right. Start at the left-hand end of the row you are working, insert the hook in the first st to the right and complete a dc stitch. Repeat in the next st to the right and continue to the end of the row.

Work a pair of cup covers

Work the various pieces for the first cup covers, then repeat in the same way for the second.
PANEL. With 3.75mm needles and grey yarn, cast on 16 sts and work in st st 58 rows or the number of rows needed to cover the chosen cup. Then cast off. Complete this panel with crochet hook and red yarn, working a round of dc and a round of crab st as follows: * 1 crab st, miss next st; rep from * all around, ending with a ss into first st. Cut yarn and fasten off.
LACING STRAPS. For part 1, with crochet hook, red yarn and WS facing, work 3 rows of dc on center 8 sts of a short side, then cut yarn and fasten off. Sew 2 buttons in the middle of this red strap. For part 2, with crochet hook, red yarn and WS facing, work 2 rows of dc on center 8 sts of other short side, then work another row (= buttonhole row) as follows: (2 dc, ch3, miss next st for buttonhole) twice, 2 dc. Cut yarn and fasten off.

ARMS (make 2). For each arm, with RS facing, knitting needles and grey yarn, inside 15 sts from a short side, pick up and K 8 sts, then work row 2 P (WS), row 3 K and row 4 P.
Row 5: K1, K2tog, K2, K2tog, K1 (6 sts rem).
Rows 6 and 8: P.
Row 7: K.
Row 9: K1, (K2tog) twice, K1 (4 sts rem).
Rows 10 and 12: P.
Row 11: K.
Row 13: (K2tog) twice.
Cast off rem 2 sts.

‘Mr&Mrs’ cup covers couple – Easy, easy instructions

Gather the materials and go over the stitches you will use

We will use the same yarn as the previous project, but change colors and crochet hook. We’ll take:

  • Calicò yarn, 1 ball for each of the following colors: black, white, and red
  • a 3.00mm crochet hook
  • yarn needle with rounded point
  • a button for each cup covers

The work is all crocheted and alternates the following stitches:

  • chain (ch)
  • slip stitch (ss)
  • double crochet (dc)
  • crab stitch (read instructions above)

Follow instructions to prepare the panels

We can start with the new project. For panel of each cup covers, with 3.00mm hook and white yarn, ch17 and, starting from 2nd ch from hook, work a row of dc. There are 16 dc. Work other 52 rows of dc. Then cut yarn and fasten off. Complete this panel with a round of crab st, using black or red yarn as follows: * 1 crab st, miss next st; rep from * all around, but at the same time work a ch5 buttonhole at center of a short side. End with a ss into first st. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Close cup covers and embroider lettering

Finishing instructions are for a single cup covers; repeat it for the second.

Sew button to correspond buttonhole, on other short side. With yarn needle and black or red yarn, embroider letters in cross st at center of panel, over part corresponding to cup-covers Front. Follow related Chart.

Each cross stitch is made up of two overlapping half slanted stitches. Thread the yarn needle with 2 strands of yarn, to create the first half slanted stitch.

Work from left to right. Bring the needle out at left side base on first dc and insert at right side top of same first dc, completing half the cross stitch.

Pull yarn and repeat over the other stitches of dc row. At end, work back. To obtain cross stitches, return over each half slanted stitch, working from right to left.

And, also your ‘Mr&Mrs’ cup covers couple is ready!
